The web of karma – Anurag Shrivastava

Blurb

This is the era of Jungle-Raaj in Bihar – the dark age of increasing anarchy and lawlessness in the state.
Control over law and order has long since passed from the hands of the administration to caste-based gangs and organized crime syndicates enjoying political patronage. Kidnapping has become one of the flourishing businesses of the state, while every other industry has dwindled down and the development plank has gone on a pause mode, on account of Rangdari, which is yet another booming business apart from contract killing, smuggling, illegal tree cutting, and vehicle snatching. Migration to other states is at peak: not only of big businessmen, but also of lowly laborers. And those who can’t leave the state are either sucked into the crime world or are forced to live under fear. Albeit the local newspapers everyday sketch the sordid saga of the state, the execrable condition is not likely to improve by any means in the near future.

Digambar Babu, a middle-aged man of a small town Motihari (the place of Mahatma Gandhi’s Champaran Satyagrah), is dejected and dismayed for his family falling apart, and so sets himself on a mission to make amends for the mistakes he has done in the past. Shakuntala Devi, his wife, infuriated at herself for having devoted her whole life selflessly and arduously for her ungrateful family, wants to make up for the injustice she has done to herself, by living the rest of her life selfishly. Sarvesh, their asthmatic son, whose first marriage perished about a decade ago, is still struggling with both his career and his married life, and Nisha, their daughter, is married to someone whom she thinks she will never be able to love. The biggest threat to the already troubled family is Nisha’s ex-lover Kanhaiya Tiwari, who is the youngest corporator of the town, and has sworn to ruin the family.
Shyam, Nisha’s husband, who is ‘the absorber of the emotions’, in keeping with his fluidity, writhes in pain but transforms time and again, in order to win his wife’s heart, while Savita, Sarvesh’s current wife, colludes with Kanhaiya Tiwari in his evil intent, in order to have all the strings of the family in her hands. Benighted in Sodom, they weave their web of Karma, and fabricate their fates, but the biggest sufferer in the ruthless game of dominance and survival are the innocent children of the family.

The story tries to draw parallels between Digambar Babu’s disarrayed family and the disordered town.

The novel is inspired from the real events happened in the town during 90’s era of jungle-raaj.

Starting off with the cover i personally loved it alot depicts the flow of universe within one and around. The title is also apt and goes along well with the book. The book is set in old times and bihar. The way it has been written is really beautiful. Characterization of the characters is really good.

The book takes you a bit to the old times and forms an imagery and takes you along to a journey.

“Close The Door As You Walk In.” – Let’s talk the truth about hustling. Over a coffee?

But, in reality the hustling of your life is the real stepping stone towards your best of the choices and worthy achievements. Maybe this or maybe that, should I go here or do I need to be there? Baffled! Totally! So, why not try cuddling these hustles? This book ‘Close The Door As You Walk In’, an eBook by Saurabh Sharma, talks about the hustle and bustle of an entrepreneur and how he sails through the tough choices and endures till the last stone of his fantasy kingdom. Also, it unravels many aspects of what are the options to choose from, and how? This read will surely give a kick start to your entrepreneurial journey and maybe, you never know it might turn your love for passion into something so vast and soothing that would leave you in tranquility for eternity.

CONVERSATION WITH THE AUTHOR :

1) Can you tell us more about yourself and how did you get to writing?

My pen name is meet_the_wizard. Most of the people think that it’s just
a social media id or an alias name, but the fact is that there’s more to
it, what? Well that’s a secret. And I am writing since I was a little
kid. Maybe I was in 5th or 6th sttandard when I started penning down
some ghost stories in the pocket diaries made for me by my sister and I
just loved the whole idea of reading them whenver I need to spend some
time with myelf. And I just embraced the fact that everybody around me
had a story or the other. And I was good with listening. And above this
all, I have cherished my eperiences. So I listen, observe, experience
and simply pen it all down.

2) A few insights about your book?

Close the door as you walk in, I felt was essential, I felt was required
out there. How often we see people looking up to the stars or the
achievers and saying, yea! It’s easy to say motivational stuff when
you’re already a star. So I felt to give them a guide from a hustler
about the lessons of hustling, a hustler who is actually in the phase of
hustling. To tell them, man it’s tough yet beautiful. Writing is a
responsiblity, and whatever experience I have gained, I just wanted that
to be poured down and to serve the minds about the tings that often
confuse them, and that too with a perspective they surely haven’t heard
of. Because people will always tell them what to do, or how to do, but
the book simply tells you how to have the perspective to believe in
yourself and to believe that your method is correct. It solve confusions
about very basic yet important aspects in lives.

3) Which are your favourite authors?

Am horrible at reading. Never gonna lie about that. But the Alchemist by
Paulo Coelho will always be a special one for me. And can I say, “Am my
own favourite”.

4) What is your view about book publishing these days?

Let me remind you, you’re asking this to a publisher himself. Running
Lapsus Creations quite successfully I have come across various methods
and expectations that run around publishing. And I always say, there’s
no right and wrong as long as they serve the purpose and the
writers/authors actually get a helping hand in a right manner.

5) What is your message through the book?

Close the door as you walk in, intend to be a guide to hustling days,
totally as weird as me. And that is why I kept it an E-Book, to make
sure one can have it in there pockets 24*7 and can refer to it whenever
they are encountered by a situation in life of which they aren’t much
sure about.

BLURB –

Kartik fell in love with Ashima the very first time he saw her. She was everything he had ever imagined in his dream girl – his angel. As their friendship blossomed into deep love, culminating into marriage, he became her teddy, her confidant and an eternal support. But in trying to be with her, Kartik made a choice that broke his father’s heart and hopes. As Kartik and Ashima gear up to step into the next Phase of their relationship, life seems like an overload of joy and love. He is confident his love for Ashima will win over all odds, even his father. Little did he know that things were going to change drastically, forever. Why does Ashima marry someone else? Why does Kartik accept it silently? And why is life so unpredictable? This is a story of deep love that knows no bounds, relationships that break all barriers, and a promise – I am always here with you.

REVIEW –

The cover is really romantic unraveling a sweet love story along with the really mellifluous title as well. The story starts with Kartik and Ashima’s school story how they fall in love and even have a married life but as always once cannot always please everyone. His father is really agitated after he is marred and starts to maintain distance. While ashima and Kartik really go along well together and also are about to have a child Tragedy never has to leave space in amidst everything. Kartik is gone forever and so are their dreams for the happy married life and forever.

The letters left by Kartik is all that Ashima clings on to till the end. Keeps re-reading them as if Kartik is still around and having them looked by.

What you will really love reading is the letters and how there is a twist in the story also the epilogue will leave you in awe. The last few pages are a emotional ride. I did not like at times the constant to and fro from their childhood to present but an okay read.

A sweet story of love and remembrance.

Corrupt system forces him to enter into the dirty game of politics. He gains power to avenge his antagonists, The only thing that makes him different is his ideologies. He believes in everything Gandhi once believed in. He believes in setting things straight by talking rather than unnecessary fights. Being a Gandhian, his strategy is something unusual . . . his revenge isn’t ordinary . . .

REVIEW –

Starting off with the cover of the book it is really very okay and didn’t go as much with the book content. Could have been made much more better. The title is okay made sense in the end. So this is a romantic story which ends up with so much patriotism and servicing others. How helping someone is really important and taking a stand for something could change your life. The first half of the book goes about with the story of Vijay and Priya and there love life where as the other half deals with the twist that changes their life for good. The authors have done good work with the flow of the story. I felt it could have been shortened. The book quality could have been better I feel the pages starts to tear off sooner. The pace of the book is slow. Themes covered is romance and being selfless. You will enjoy reading the book as it has a genuine story which could have happened to anyone. What I really liked how it is a different story and is not the same old usual romance the different pick of the plot is what unique. Also the book did not feel as it was co-authored and felt like one author wrote it so kudos to the authors for that. Simple and easy to understand story. The book also teaches you how leadership is and all the sarcrifices one has to make.

things that you will like : story plot.

things that you will not like : grammatical errors, cover and no proper execution of the idea of the book.

a one time read.

In Conversation with Author of Page 6 and beyond :Hureen Gandhi.

About the book :

Blurb :

In modern day America, amidst the contentious presidential election campaign of November 2016, immigrant author Hureen Saghar Gandhi finds that humor is the only way to keep her family and her friends’ spirits high. Living a fast and furious life in Northern Virginia, surrounded by quirky characters, she decides she has no choice but to weave them into her satirical anecdotes in her book: Page 6 And Beyond. This book will have you laughing out loud as she embarks on a spy mission to: bond with long-lost childhood school friends on a sensational WhatsApp column; fulfill her bucket lists; chronicle encounters with her kids, and challengers; relate her childhood escapades; relive her misadventures in the Nordic region; and supply readers with extraordinary stories of her friends living in different continents.

About the Author

Hureen Saghar Gandhi lives with her husband and their two wonderful daughters in Northern Virginia. She savors her ever-growing collection of memories from her travel escapades and meeting people from all around the world. Her passion lies in capturing the moments (that may get lost in time) through her camera lens. And recently through her writing, she humorously brings to life her fond memories

While conversing we found out a little more about the book.

1)The blurb makes us all curious. Can you tell us a little more about the book what does it include?

The underlying theme of the book is to enjoy living each and every moment in life while keeping one’s sense of humor. The book has me a first-generation immigrant resident of the United States living an ordinary suburban life with my family. In my daily life, I come across various characters with their idiosyncrasies. The book is about how I embrace each of these characters. The dominant framework is my school’s WhatsApp group where my classmate’s unbeknownst to them have become the source of my inspiration for many of the sensational stories.

2)How did you start writing? What does it mean to you?

My funny bone triggered when I had my first born 12 years back, and I decided to be a stay-at-home mom. My writing skills, however, was a discovery. I stumbled upon it only a couple of years ago when I started to write a humorous column “Page 6” on my school WhatsApp group.

I write to make myself and others laugh. It also helps me self-reflect and muse over my fond memories and experiences.

3)Is this your usual genre to write? What else do you write about? Any new works?

Yes, humor is the only genre I have officially published.

New work- I have some ideas penned down. It will just be a matter of time and the right trigger. 😀

4)Your favorite authors? What are you currently reading?

I enjoy a wide variety of the genres. My favorite author is Dan Brown. Amongst humor authors, I loved Twinkle Khanna’s Mrs. Funnybone. I borrowed the framework of my book from hers, and am thankful to her to inspire many of my personal accounts that have made it to my book. I also enjoy Anuja Chauhan’s sense of humor.

I am currently reading three books depending on my mood and my geographical location. At home I am reading Jeffrey Archer’s “Tell Tale,” and Rhonda Byrne’s “How Secret Changed My Life,” while in between waiting for my girl’s after-school activities to get over, I am reading kindle version of Anuja Chauhan’s “The Zoya Factor.”

5) Any tips for our writers and readers?

You are never too old to pursue your dreams. Don’t let age and experience stop you from doing anything you wish to do in your life. It’s passion, hard work, and perseverance that will lead you where you want to see yourself.

Tip for writers – Make your first draft free-flowing, unobstructed, devoid of any self-criticism.

Tip for readers – Page 6 And Beyond is a light read. Although the events in the book are connected, you can still open any chapter of the book and read it on its own. In addition, watch out for the intricate illustrations done to support the narration. To understand some of them, you have to read the complete chapter and come back again to admire the idea and work done in illustrations.

In a conversation with multitalented Dr. Jagdish Chaturvedi about his book The Benefits of Failing Successfully.

Before we engage the author with questions here are some of the things you should know about him and the book.

Jagdish profile pic stand up comedy .jpg

A little about the Author

Dr. Jagdish Chaturvedi has been known all his life by family, friends and peers for being absentminded, impulsive and for making mistakes, failing and causing blunders. Despite this, at the age of 33, he is a well-to-do Ear Nose Throat surgeon and medical device innovator with 18 inventions to date. He was recognized as one of the 35 innovators under the age of 35 by MIT Technology Review in 2016.

He is a well-known stand-up comedian, actor and an author of the best-selling book on medical devices called Inventing Medical Devices: A Perspective from India.

ABOUT THE BOOK :

BLURB OF THE BOOK –

In this book, Dr. Chaturvedi shares ten personal anecdotes of mistakes and failures and gives a perspective of his interpretation, where he positions failures as a part of the process rather than a definitive outcome. Explaining with humorous caricatures and situations, he demonstrates numerous benefits that arise from such mistakes, why they are important and how they have helped him shape his career.

Even though the mistakes and failures made by Dr. Chaturvedi may appear trivial and in-significant when compared to those faced by many others in the general population, they highlight the principles of a very unique and positive perspective that may be applied in mistakes and failures of greater magnitudes as well. This book may serve to be food for thought for many who believe that failures are detrimental and that they should be aggressively avoided and not embraced. It may change their minds to think about failures as steps towards success, by showing how key insights from these failures can be used to empower new skills and opportunities.

Now that you know all of this. here we bombard the author with questions and get an insight more about the interesting book.

1)  Tell us a little about the book and what it means to you?
This book is my way of sharing how failures have helped me progress in life faster and more effectively. At the age of 34 if I am a well-to-do doctor, successful Medical device innovator, serial author and stand up comedian then all credit goes to the ability to fail and make mistakes quickly which helped me evolve faster. I don’t think many people realise the benefits of making mistakes and failing. The learnings from mistakes can make one good at things and many such learnings makes one an expert. People generally avoid mistakes and miss out on a chance to improve. Through this book I want to demonstrate how my failures have helped me more than negatively impact me.
